How does magnetic base drilling work?
Magnetic base drilling is a drilling process in which only the circumference of the hole is drilled, leaving a core in the center. Magnetic base drills are rotating cylinders that are equipped with carbide cutting edges.
Especially for hard materials and large diameters, magnetic base drills offer several advantages over conventional drilling methods, as the core remains inside the drill bit and does not have to be removed. This way the drilling tool is protected and you can drill faster into metallic materials, e.g., steel beams. Magnetic base drills are often used for this purpose: they adhere to steel via an electromagnet in the baseplate so that you do not have to support the heavy drill using only your physical strength.
