From 2021, statutory requirements on how certain hazardous substances are used on the European market for electric and electronic devices will be tightened up. As a quality manufacturer of electrical tools, we take the safety of our products and the satisfaction of our customers extremely seriously. For this reason, we are undertaking a comprehensive review of our compliance with these future requirements. In the course of this review, we have found that a gasket containing a type of asbestos was installed in the core drills and spare parts referred to above, branded FEIN (the “drills”).

Drills affected:

KBC 35

KBB 60

727204

KBB 60 X

The gaskets are located at the following positions:

Asbestos fibres may in principle be released when the drills are used. This is the case, in particular, when the affected gasket is broken, destroyed or scuffed. Asbestos is harmful to health and can cause cancer under certain circumstances.

Therefore, it is very important that you take the following measures immediately:

  1. The above-mentioned drills may no longer be operated, used, repaired, serviced or sold.
  2. All affected drills must be collected immediately, taped with a commercially available, reinforced fabric adhesive tape in the affected sealing area and stored in protected, secured containers, for example in the original case. IMPORTANT: Protective gloves and dust respirators (type FFP3) must be worn. After use these must be stored in the protected, closed container together with the drill.Under no circumstances should you open the casing of the drills yourself. Should you not have suitable storage options or not be able to separate the affected drills, please contact us immediately.
  3. Please forward this safety warning without delay to all persons in possession of an affected drill of whom you are aware. Alternatively, we would be happy to contact these groups of people directly if you promptly notify us of their contact details.

Here is how to check whether your device is affected:

1. You can find out what model you have by reading the device label directly.

2. Check whether your specific drill type is affected:

  • All drills of types KBC 35, KBB 60 and KBB 60 X are affected.
