London Gates & Railings Ltd, experts in the design, fabrication and installation of custom-made iron gates and railings, turned to FEIN to help make their processes safer and more efficient for their operators.

About the company

London Gates & Railings have been providing high quality gates and railings in the Greater London area for over 20 years. The company provide a full service from design, manufacturing and fabrication, and installation. The team is made up of highly skilled professionals who work with a variety of materials including iron, mild steel. and wrought/cast iron. The company provide custom designs for residential and commercial buildings, designed to perfectly match the expectations and needs of the client.

The Challenge

The company manufactures all its custom designed gates and railings at its site in Watford. Operators at the company were making cuts using a 9-inch angle grinder which led to challenges such as not producing good quality clean cuts in the metal, production was slow, the grinder would get hot and produce large sparks which could compromise safety and the constant handling of the grinder was hard going on the operator. As the company were consistently cutting material on a daily basis and cutting through 3m grids at a time with up to 10 grid sections being cut, they turned to FEIN to see if the company could provide a safer, more efficient way of cutting material.

FEIN’s Solution

One of our technical experts connected with the company during an on-site visit and to gain an understanding of the tasks the company was performing on a daily basis. It was during this visit, that our expert recommended the F-Ironcut Circular Saw, our compact cordless circular saw. Our lightweight flexible circular saw allows up to 50% more material removal when compared to conventional metal hand saws. Equipped with a flame-retardant chip collector, it catches up to 80% of the hot chips, whilst its die-cast aluminium casting protects both the machine and the operator from overheating. Thanks to individual speed adjustment, cuts in various materials and profiles can be achieved without reworking, with a depth cut that allows up to 57mm.

Benefits

Thanks to the F-Ironcut Circular Saw, London Gates & Railings have been able to considerably improve safety and efficiency. Key benefits to the business include:

  • Cold cuts with very few sparks
  • Less handling for the operator than the 9-inch grinder
  • Speed of cut – has improved cutting speeds at the company by over X%
  • Mobile and Compact - less strain on the operator as the F-Ironcut circular saw is a lot lighter and easier to handle than a 9-inch grinder whilst still providing full power.
  • Less physical strain on the operator – no more bending and straining over metal
  • Drastic improvements on safety – equipped with dead man’s switch, effective brake (0.2 sec), restart protection, temperature cut-off and swing protection cover.
  • Reduction in HAVS – 9-inch angle grinders have high vibration figures so switching products equals increased operator safety
  • Less strain on the operator means the saw can be used for longer and meet the daily needs of the business improving efficiency
  • Cordless power – the F-Ironcut is compatible with the AMPShare battery platform eliminating trip hazards due to power cords
  • Eliminate grinder dust produced by using abrasive wheels equals increased operator safety.

Speaking about the new Circular Saw, our technical expert Kevin said: When I first used the NEW F-Ironcut Circular saw, I knew I had a product that does exactly what it says on the tin. I had complete faith that our new saw would make it easier, safer and more efficient for our end users and was excited to show our customers. Every single customer I have shown it too so far has yet to disagree with me once they have physically used the product. This tool far exceeds expectations when it comes to performance and I’m looking forward to showing more potential customers just what the F-Ironcut can truly do.’

Business owner, Cristian Silaghi, said: ‘I first learnt about the F-Ironcut circular saw by watching a video and I was immediately impressed with its performance and power. I connected with Kevin so I could test this product for myself in our fabrication centre and was so impressed with the results. Whilst the performance and power of the tool was impressive, for me the key element was the drastic improvements it provided when it came to the safety of our operators. In our daily basis, we really put tools to the test, as we are working with them constantly. So far, the F-Ironcut has exceeded my expectations’.
