The FEIN magnetic drilling system.

With more than 25 years of continuous development, FEIN’s magnetic drilling technology has achieved a peak of excellence. FEIN’s 2011 acquisition of Jancy Engineering raised the bar even higher, now offering the well-known Slugger trademarked system of portable magnetic drills and annular cutters.

General Maintenance

The technical care can be performed by the user.

Keep your electrical tool clean and dry.

  • Avoid large variations in temperature while tool is in storage. (Condensation may occur, causing damage.)

Vacuum the surface of your machine and air-clean the louvers with dry, oil-free compressed air. When using ceramic abrasives, regular maintenance of the machine is necessary.

Recharge your accumulators periodically.

  • Lithium-ion accumulators in long-term storage should be kept only partially charged (2 green LEDs).
  • NiCd/NiMH accumulators in long-term storage should be kept fully charged.
Recharging is necessary at least every 3 months, due to self-discharging.

Mechanical Care

Only electrically skilled individuals should perform the mechanical maintenance of all tools.
Mechanical care involves external and internal cleaning, testing and renewal of wearing parts (e.g. bearings, greases, seals). A testing of functionality and reliability has to be performed, according to EN VDE 0701/0702.
The frequency of mechanical care is variable according to use and ambient conditions (i.e. dust, air humidity, operation time, etc.).

Maintainance

Normal frequency
(50 Hz)

Daily:
Daily maintenance is required for operations that produce excessive dust particles without suction cleaning.

Annually:
With short operating times, the machine should be maintained at least annually.

When changing the carbon brushes, the user should, at minimum, check machine functionality and insulation.

High frequency without surface cooling (industrial power networks 180-300 Hz)

Daily maintenance is required for operations that produce excessive dust particles without suction cleaning.

Annually:
With short operating times, the machine should be maintained at least annually.

After 300 operating hours, the machine should be maintained and the insulation checked.

Repairs

For repairs and maintenance, FEIN suggests that all equipment be taken to an authorized FEIN repair shop.
Find an authorized FEIN repair shop here.

Professional maintenance and repairs should be completed with original FEIN spare parts. Use of only FEIN mechanical replacement parts will maintain all guarantees and warranties.

The following parts may be replaced by the user, as needed:
Application tools/accessories, additional handles, clamping units and flanges, protective caps (machine-specific), drill chucks/tool holders (machine-specific).
